Passivation
In addition to the passivation of conversion coatings before varnishing, passivation processes are also used for bare surfaces, e.g., hot-dip galvanized steel.
The passivation coatings are based on chromium (III) and chromium-free formulations and are used for short-term corrosion protection for storage and transport. For extended corrosion protection, these passivations are replaced by oiling, for example.
Advantages
- Temporary bare corrosion protection
- Chromate-free
- Can also be used in quench baths at higher temperatures
